Round 6 Training Session III: Evaluation Metrics & Effective Client Presentations - June 19, 2010

Developing evaluation metrics and effectively presenting recommendations to the client are important in successfully wrapping up a consulting engagement and evaluating project outcomes. Jim Love, CEO of Chelsea Consulting, Board Chair of CMC-Canada GTA Chapter and Professor at the University of Waterloo, led a training session on evaluation metrics for the consulting teams as they enter the final phase of their projects. Barry Linetsky, Partner at the Strategic Planning Group and President of Curious Solutions, led a training session on effective client presentations to prepare the teams for their final client presentations.

Round 6 Mid-Term Review - May 15, 2010

Location: Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, 575 Bay Street, Toronto, ON
On May 15th, Endeavour held a mid-term review session for Spring/Summer 2010 consulting teams working with The 411 Initiative for Change (411), Alli’s Journey, The Always Nubian, Always Scarborough Association (A.N.A.S.A.) Collective, Canadian Civil Liberties Education Trust (CCLET), International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers (IAMAT), Motions Youth and Community Centre (MY.CC), Sky’s the Limit (STL) Youth Organization, and Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN). The teams presented their progress and engaged advisors and fellow consulting team members in discussion to receive feedback for moving forward in their engagements. Volunteers also had the opportunity to network with members of other teams to brainstorm suggestions for improvement to the Endeavour Executive and future consulting teams.

Round 6 Orientation - March 13, 2010
Date & Time: Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 9am-2pm
Location: East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto, ON
On March 13th, Endeavour kicked off its sixth round of consulting engagements with an orientation for over 60 new and returning volunteers for Spring/Summer 2010 projects with eight new clients. The day started off with an orientation for engagement managers, where experiences and tips from former Endeavour engagement managers were shared. The agenda included volunteer introductions, a presentation on the non-profit sector and consulting by Alex Gill, Principal of Mendicant Group, an overview of non-profit resources by Steven Ayer, Senior Research Associate at Imagine Canada, sharing of experiences and lessons learned by former Endeavour volunteers, an orientation to Endeavour’s project cycle and resources by Endeavour executives, lunch, and a breakout session for the eight teams to get started on their projects.

Round 5 Final Review Session - February 20, 2010

Teams for Endeavour’s Fall 2009/Winter 2010 consulting engagements with the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers, Contact Contemporary Music, Ecologos Institute, Food For the Poor Canada, Hospice Richmond Hill, and Kids’ Internet Safety Alliance Foundation got together on February 20th at the Ted Rogers School of Management for a final review session. Each team presented their key findings and recommendations, and received feedback from Endeavour advisors, executives and fellow consulting teams in preparation for their upcoming final client presentations. We thank our volunteers for their incredible work and commitment over the last six months, and look forward to sharing with you the results of these projects in the near future.

On May 2, 2009, Mary Lynne Stewart, President of MLS & Associates, led our second training session for spring/summer 2009 consulting teams. With over 18 years of experience as a professional fundraiser and administrator with numerous Canadian and international non-profit institutions, Mary Lynne engaged us with her stories and insights on non-profit fundraising and marketing, helping us gain a better understanding of the non-profit sector, in particular, the challenges and opportunities with fundraising and marketing strategies and tactics.

On April 25, 2009, the consulting teams for the Canadian Hearing Society, Dress Your Best, Fly By Night Theatre, Meal Exchange and The Hearing Foundation of Canada presented their client recommendations and lessons learned to advisors, executives and fellow consulting teams, and received feedback in preparation for their upcoming final client presentations. Our Round 3 consulting teams have done some amazing work for our clients, and we look forward to sharing with you the outcomes and impact of their work in the near future.
Round 4 Engagement Manager Training and Volunteer Orientation & Training Session 1 - March 29, 2009

On March 29, 2009, Endeavour kicked off Round 4 consulting engagements with 42 new and returning engagement managers, consultants and project advisors at Toronto Metro Hall. The afternoon began with an Engagement Manager Training Session led by experienced Endeavour engagement managers, Allyson Collymore and Patrick Dunn. Orientation and Training Session 1 brought together engagement managers, consultants, project advisors and executives to prepare for a new set of consulting engagements. The afternoon included a special presentation on the non-profit sector and non-profit consulting by Alex Gill (Principal, Mendicant Group & Instructor, Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility, Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University) and a presentation on non-profit consulting resources by Steven Ayer (Senior Research Associate, Imagine Canada). A networking break and breakout session provided volunteers with the opportunity to get better acquainted with one another.
Round 3 Training Session 3: Client Presentations & Metrics to Evaluate Success - March 7, 2009

Dr. Zayna Khayat, Principal at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and a member of the Endeavour Advisory Board, led Training Session III on developing key metrics to evaluate the success of the consulting engagement, and the art of giving compelling client presentations, which in many ways is key in demonstrating the success of the engagement to the client stakeholders. An appreciation and understanding of these topics are critical as teams approach the end of their engagement and look to provide greater value to their clients.

Round 2 Final Review Event & Reception - November 15, 2008
On November 15, 2008 at Toronto City Hall, engagement managers and consultants from the Spring/Summer 2008 consulting engagements presented their projects and lessons learned to advisors, executives and fellow consulting teams. Each team presentation was followed by a Q&A session and feedback from the audience. A reception at the end provided an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some good food and conversation.

Round 3 Orientation & Training Session 1 - October 18, 2008
On October 18, 2008, we kicked off our Fall 2008/Winter 2009 consulting engagements with Orientation and Training Session 1 for over 40 volunteers at the City of Toronto Metro Hall. Highlights included a presentation on the non-profit sector by Dr. Agnes Meinhard, Founding Director of the Centre for Voluntary Sector Studies, Ryerson University; a training workshop on High-Performance Teams by Dr. Ann Armstrong, Lecturer, Organizational Behaviour and HR Management, Rotman School of Management; and a presentation on a past Endeavour volunteer consulting project by Frank Zhang.

Round 2 Midterm Review Session - August 16, 2008
On August 16, 2008, consulting teams, advisors and executives gathered together at the Centre for Social Innovation for a midterm review session. Consulting teams presented their progress to date, sought advice on next steps, and received feedback from the audience. Current consulting teams also had the opportunity to learn from Sofia Stefou and Frank Zhang, who gave their final presentation on their successful consulting engagement with Psychosocial Rehabiliation (PSR) Canada. The consulting team presentations were followed by an interactive guest presentation and case study by non-profit marketing consultant, Donnie Claudino.

Round 2 Volunteer Orientation - May 3, 2008
On May 3, 2008, we kicked off our second round of projects with an orientation attended by over 30 volunteers at the Centre for Social Innovation. Guest speaker, Brenda Gainer, Director of the Non-Profit Management & Leadership Program at the Schulich School of Business, gave an insightful introduction to the non-profit sector. Former Endeavour Consultant, Tatjana Lajeskvic, presented her experience with The Ontario Rural Council consulting project and shared helpful tips with our new volunteers. Volunteers also had the chance to meet team members, advisors and executives, analyze and present a consulting case, and start discussing their projects with their advisors.

Round 1 Mid-Term Review Session with Advisory Board - January 26, 2008
At the mid-term review session, each consulting team met with members of the Advisory Board and Executive Team to present their progress, ask questions, and receive feedback. Serving as guest reviewers at the event were Tom Zizys, a community sector consultant for over ten years with a focus on community economic development (CED), and Janice Wiggins, Project Director at Volunteer Lawyers Service, Pro Bono Law Ontario.

Round 1 Volunteer Orientation - September 30, 2007
