Join us for our interactive workshop, beginning with a presentation on Project Management 101 by Alan Kennedy, CMC, LLB, Partner at Gibson Kennedy & Company and Faculty Member in Strategic Management and Municipal Leadership at Schulich Executive Education Centre.

Following the presentation, Alan will be joined by CMC-Canada members, Bob Dido, Consulting Director at Sierra Systems, Gwen Dido, Senior Strategy Consultant and Project Manager at IBM Canada, and Gail Severini, CEO at Symphini Change Management, in a panel discussion moderated by Abe Patricio, Senior Project Manager at Stantec.

Alan Kennedy is a founding member and partner of Gibson Kennedy & Company, a management consulting firm offering strategy counsel and competitive research services. Alan’s consulting practice focuses exclusively on helping senior management with project planning and strategy communication. Alan has extensive experience facilitating group discussions and preparing issues for presentation to Boards and Management. Alan has been teaching courses on Strategic Management for the Schulich School of Business since 1992. Over 2500 executives have attended his very popular three-day course, Strategic Management, offered three times a year at the Schulich Executive Education Centre and twice a year by Saint Mary’s University’s Professional Development Division. He is also a faculty member in the Masters Certificate Program in Municipal Leadership at the Schulich Executive Education Centre. During his corporate career, Alan served as Senior Vice President & General Counsel for both Oxford Development Group and Campeau Corporation.

Alan is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a member of the Honor Roll of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Ontario. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1975.

Bob Dido is Consulting Director, Financial Services for Sierra Systems. Dido joined Sierra in October 2009. He has held a number of management positions over that period of time. Dido is responsible for the creation of Sierra Systems Financial Services go-to-market strategy through the identification of market opportunities, industry-specific partnerships and acquisitions. He also designed the delivery of Sierra’s full range of management consulting, systems integration, and managed services solutions that meet the exact needs of their financial services clients.

Bob has over 37 years of marketing, finance, and banking and information technology experience behind him, including management roles at Ford Motor Company, Government of Canada, Department of Finance, as well as The Royal Bank of Canada.

Dido earned Bachelor of Commerce, with Honours in Marketing and Accounting from Queen’s, and an MBA in Finance from University of Western Ontario. He also holds the PMP and CMC professional designations.

Gwen Dido specializes as a change agent whether she is in the role of a Strategy Consultant or Senior Project Manager. She is a global solution leader streamlining and automating business processes to realize efficiencies and focus resources on strategic imperatives. She is a 25 year veteran with significant experiences in the financial services, telecommunications, pharmaceutical and retail sectors.

Gwen has a track record of repeat business with her clients based upon a trusted relationship and collaborative approach. Dido is a pioneering innovation engineer completing uncharted and mission-critical projects with tight timeframes.

She also specializes in Project Management Office (PMO) oversight and improvements.

Gwen earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours at Queen’s University, and holds the PMP and CMC professional designations.

Jim is a consulting veteran with over 30 years of experience in both senior business and IT roles. His consulting career has included roles as Global Vice President for DMR Consulting and Principal at Ernst & Young. Jim is an expert in a number of consulting disciplines, including Strategy, Performance Metrics, Lean & Six Sigma, Portfolio Management, and Program Planning. Gail is a Principal and co-founder of Symphini Change Management Inc., which focuses on leading and managing change. Gail has 20 years of experience implementing strategic change in various industries. She participates in several professional associations and serves on various advisory boards. Her articles and presentations are published regularly and she has been interviewed on the topic of Change Management, for example through BusinessWeek’s Market Advisory Board on “fresh ideas on how to manage through the recession”.
Gail is a graduate of Queen’s University and earned her Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation in 1993. She continues as an active member of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants, sponsoring and mentoring prospective members. She is also Certified in Prosci Research’s Change Management Program.

He has been consistently successful in improving business performance and achieving business growth with years of experience in the retail industry and management consulting.

Candace T. Grant, BA, MBA, GDipKM, PMP, Assistant Professor, Ted Rogers School of Management

Candace Grant BA (Queen’s University, Chemistry), MBA (Royal Roads University), Graduate Diploma in Knowledge Management (Royal Roads University) is a professor in Information Technology Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management. Candace brings to the School over 25 years in the information technology sector focusing on software development, process improvement, quality assurance and knowledge transfer. Amongst the positions she has held are Director of Consulting Services to support a knowledge-based suite of products for IT Professionals; Manager of Methodology and Quality Assurance for a Systems Integration firm; Program Manager for a financial services regulator. Organizations with which she has worked include Scotiabank, AT&T, Virgin Mobile (UK), the Financial Services Authority (UK), the Post office, national and regional governments and voluntary associations.

Candace has extensive experience in course design, development and delivery in both the private and the public sector. Her research interests include the ethical use of knowledge in today’s knowledge-based economy and the role of knowledge in project-based environments.

She is the coordinator of two courses, Knowledge Management and Ethics for IT Professionals, at the Ted Rogers School of Management.

Bob Mcculloch, Principal, CYOR & Energy Exchange; FCMC; Past Chair & Board Member, CMC-Canada

Over the past 30 years, Bob has helped senior managers and executives strengthen their creativity and strategic thinking. He has worked with executive teams in virtually every industry sector.

The primary focus of Bob’s consulting practice is in coaching and facilitating senior management to formulate business strategy along with potent action plans, while helping to strengthen the organization’s capability to make strategic choices on an ongoing basis. Bob is recognized for his ability to galvanize a management team around a clear vision and strategy, and to support mobilization of that strategy.

Prior to launching his own firm, he held strategic positions with IBM Canada, the DMR Group, and Johnston Smith International.

Dr. John A. Estrella, CMC, PMP, CBAP, CTFL, CSTE; President, Agilitek Corporation; Instructor, Chang School at Ryerson

Dr. John A. Estrella specializes in helping senior management deliver large and complex IT projects. John worked on various consulting engagements for some of the world’s most respected organizations in Asia, North America and Europe.

In addition to his management consulting career, he shares his unique and rare blend of expertise by authoring books and courses in project management, business analysis and software testing which are available in Canada, U.S., U.K., France, Sweden, Japan, India and other countries.

An eloquent and engaging speaker, he quickly connects with his audiences by presenting personal experiences, practical examples and simple recommendations.

John was awarded a scholarship by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Educational Foundation for his doctoral studies. He is a member of PMI, CMC-Canada, IIBA, ASQ, CAPS, NSA, IFFPS, IAC and TASSQ.

On the personal side, he is a husband, father, Scout leader, martial artist, marathon runner, triathlete, scuba diver and avid outdoor person.

    Cleve Lu founded Era Integrated. He has been the President, Advisor and Executive member of the Chinese Canadian Advertising, Marketing & Media Association (CCAMMA). He is presently an Executive member of the American Marketing Association as well as the member of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, the Institute of Communications and Advertising and BC Advertising Agency Association.

    He is a guest speaker and lecturer at the Canadian Institute, Federal Business Development Bank, Centennial College and the American Marketing Association on topics such as “Ethnic advertising”, “Small Business Marketing” and “How to reach the ethnic markets”.

    Over the past six years, he has been an Event advisor, Chairman, Executive Producer and Organizer for organizations & associations that have organized the Dragon Boat festival, Centennial Hospital Charity Ball, CCAMA advertising creative awards dinner, “Sing for your heart”, Jackie Chan: “Rumble in the Bronx” press conference and the “Concert en Cirque” 1997.

    Public Transit: You can take the TTC or GO from downtown Toronto to this event. By TTC, take the subway east from Yonge Station to Kennedy Station (about 30 minutes), and then the Rail Train (RT) from Kennedy Station to Scarborough Centre Station (about 10 minutes). By GO, take the Lakeshore from Union Station to Scarborough Station (details at http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/schedule/lstser.aspx?New=) You will be able to find your way to Scarborough Civic Centre within minutes from Scarborough station (see location map below).
