Endeavour Volunteer Consulting for Non-Profits is an independent non-profit offering pro-bono strategy consulting in management and business to non-profit or social-mission organizations in Toronto and neighbouring cities to help strengthen and sustain impact in the non-profit and social sectors. Joining the Executive Team
 
Endeavour Volunteer Consulting for Non-Profits is looking for a self-motivated and results-oriented individual to join our Executive Team as Director of Education.  You will join a diverse Executive Team of young professionals and university students who are passionate about bringing together talented individuals to help strengthen and sustain social impact through pro-bono consulting with the non-profit and social sectors.  Learn more about the Executive Team at http://www.endeavourvolunteer.ca/wp/about/executive-team/?menu=abo
 
Director of Education Role
 
As a member of the Executive Team, you will contribute to our strategic directions and sustainable growth. 

As Director of Education, you will be responsible specifically for Endeavour’s education portfolio, which is focused on enhancing Endeavour’s capacity and capability to provide high-quality, high-impact pro-bono consulting services to our clients.  Your portfolio of responsibilities cover:
1) Educational Events & Partnerships
2) Consulting Methodology & Resources
3) Knowledge Management
4) Talent Development Initiative

The Director of Education can create committees and recruit committee members to support the portfolio.

1) Educational Events & Partnerships
 
Volunteer Events
 
The Director of Education will be responsible for Endeavour’s educational sessions in support of our consulting teams through each phase of their consulting engagements.  These sessions are currently held on a Saturday/Sunday morning/afternoon for both the spring/summer and fall/winter consulting cycles:
 
1) Engagement Manager Training Sesson; Orientation & Training Session I (March & September)
2) Training Session II (April & October)
3) Midterm Review (June & December)
4) Training Session III (August & February)
5) Final Review (September & March)

Public Workshops
 
Endeavour’s first interactive workshop in February 2009 in partnership with CMC-Canada was a huge success in bringing together a larger community of professionals and students to learn more about the consulting profession and Endeavour Volunteer Consulting for Non-Profits.  The Director of Education will be responsible for leveraging our partner relationships to organize public workshops in January and July, and additional workshops where the opportunity exists.  For more information on our past public workshop, visit http://www.endeavourvolunteer.ca/wp/pro-bono-community/workshops/?menu=com
 
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Leveraging partner relationships (e.g. advisors, SMEs, partner organizations) to organize speaker events
  • Coordinating event logistics, including developing agendas, booking event space, sending invites, and where required, marketing public workshops
  • Facilitating educational sessions
  • Developing and implementing forums to collect participant feedback on educational events and/or consulting engagements (e.g. surveys, debrief sessions, etc.)
  • Continually identifying and implementing improvements to educational sessions, including introducing new training/workshops to enhance value for consultants and engagement managers as needed
  • As necessary, creating and managing committee to support work
     

2) Consulting Methodology & Resources
 
To improve the consulting experience and enhance the outcomes and impact of Endeavour’s consulting work, the Director of Education will be responsible for developing and continually refining Endeavour’s non-profit consulting methodology and supporting resources.  For an overview of our consulting cycle and phases, view our Project Cycle at http://www.endeavourvolunteer.ca/wp/projects/?menu=pro and Knowledge Centre (volunteer access only) at http://groups.google.com/group/evcn/web/resources-by-project-phase.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Continually refining Endeavour’s Non-Profit Consulting Methodology, including the pre/post engagement and engagement phases, and the phases within the consulting engagement
  • Developing and/or continually refining practice areas and common deliverables to support the consulting methodology (e.g. Statement of Work, mission/visioning exercise, stakeholder value model, financial model, sustainability model, final presentation, revenue model, etc.)
  • Leveraging existing work from previous consulting teams and engagements
  • Collaborating with executives, SMEs, advisors, and high-performing engagement managers and consultants
  • Identifying tools and resources needed for consultants and engagement managers by each phase of their engagement with templates and example deliverables and documents explaining the value and methodology of each
  • As necessary, creating and managing committee to support work


3) Knowledge Management
 
To continually expand our capacity to produce high-impact and sustainable results, the Director of Education will be responsible for intiatives to develop, share and retain knowledge among our network.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Managing and continually enhancing the online Knowledge Centre at http://groups.google.com/group/evcn (or identifying and implementing a new knowledge management environment) to facilitate the retention and dissemination of knowledge and resources among our network, including archiving consulting work and resources, and creating compilations of challenges and lessons learned
  • Managing our Knowledge Sharing Committee, including identifying, recruiting, staffing, and leveraging the knowledge and experiences of committee members
  • Continually identifying, creating and managing forums and tools to share and transfer knowledge among experts, volunteers and clients, such as a knowledge sharing environment for teams to share and develop project documents
  • Identifying and creating a suitable platform for consulting teams to collaborate pieces of work online that would be easier to view progress and allow for continuous modeling and improvement of our content
  • Working with other executives (e.g. Director of Marketing and VP Volunteer & Client Relations) to publish lessons learned and case studies from consulting engagements
  • As necessary, creating and managing committee to support work
     

4) Talent Development
 
You will work with the President and other Endeavour executives to explore the opportunity to create a talent development program in partnership with the academia, consulting, non-profit and social sectors.
 

Requirements:

  • Current/former volunteer preferred
  • Familiarity with consulting methodology and resources an asset
  • Long-term commitment to Endeavour Volunteer Consulting for Non-Profits
  • Ability to collaborate and deliver results in a virtual work environment
  • Strong motivation and initiative to take the lead in carrying out responsibilities, and identifying and implementing new initiatives to enhance education portfolio
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
  • Availability to attend and facilitate educational sessions (some flexibility offered with regards to event dates as required) 

Time Commitment: We do not require our executives to commit a certain number of volunteer hours per week.  What’s important is that you have the motivation, initiative and talent to deliver high-quality results on a timeline that accelerates Endeavour’s growth and success.  
 

Training:
 
Upon joining Endeavour as Director of Education, you will be transitioned into your role with the guidance of our current Director of Educational Events and President, begining with educational events.  A plan and timeline will be developed to transition the additional responsibilities in the education portfolio to the Director of Education.
