Team Journal

November 2007

Rural Ontario The TORC team which includes Andrew, Tatjana, Tara and myself, as well as our Project Supervisors, Andrea and Narad, and last but certainly not least, our Advisor, Alex, has been really enthusiastic about getting started on the project for TORC's Rural Youth Working Group (RYWG). Although we are at the very beginning stages of getting the project off the ground, we are very confident that we will be starting shortly. We are all very excited about the possibility of being able to help rural communities find methods and practices in which to involve the youth of their respective community. These youth are essentially future decision makers of their respective communities so it is important to make sure that their voices and opinions are heard.

We have all had the pleasure of speaking with our client, Nichole, who has been very warm, friendly and is always interested in our suggestions as to how we can go about collaborating on this project. We are also looking forward to meeting with the rest of the RYWG members in early January, and our final project delivery in early March.

Overall, we are thrilled to be helping RYWG on their project and look forward to the months ahead.

Good news! We are well on our way to digging into the research portion of the project, and are coming up with some interesting information. We are learning about what information we have versus what information we need to have. This has made us all think creatively about how to find more resources that fall into line with what the client is looking for. Additionally, we have also begun thinking about ways in which to analyze the data that we've been given. Our next challenge is to find a place in which to host our January brainstorming event. Any ideas?

Well it looks like we have gotten through another month. This one has definitely gone by rather quickly! We were able to finish off our research and had the opportunity to present our findings to a working group committee on January 13th. During the meeting, we were able to get a rough idea of what the toolkit could or should actually include. Seems so far we are on the right track. Yeah! We were also able to get through our mid-term review and got some great advice from our advisors. Looking forward to the end of February when our project is completed and handed in to the client.

February 2008

Well it looks like the project is now officially completed. While it is a tremendous occasion to celebrate, I can honestly say I am sad to see it go. It was an amazing experience to have been able to work with Tara, Tatjana and Andrew and our client Nichole. They are all such lovely people and have been an absolute joy.

We officially handed over the project to Nichole on March 1st, 2008 and are eagerly anticipating its presentation at the TORC Rural Development Conference in Ottawa March 18-20th, 2008.

I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and efforts on this project, including Andrea and Alex for their continual support and guidance.
