Arts Network for Children and Youth (ANCY)

Project
Organizational toolkit to support the development of the children and youth arts
sector
Case Description
The Arts Network for Children and Youth (ANCY) is a national non-profit
community arts service organization. ANCY was established by a group of arts
practitioners with a vision to develop sustainable arts programming for children
and youth in communities across Canada.
ANCY’s mission is to ensure that all children and youth have the opportunity to
experience creativity and the arts for their personal growth, social development
and community involvement. ANCY strives to fulfill this mission by:
-
Playing a leadership and partnering role in issues and initiatives
affecting community based cultural activity for children and youth in Canada
-
Communicating to and supporting the existing arts organizations which work
with children and youth
-
Assisting the expansion of community-based cultural activity for children
and youth in Canada
-
Expanding the definition of community cultural programming for children
and youth
-
Collaborating, sharing and acting as a resource for existing and new
programs
-
Providing guidance and support to new programs and communities
Specific activities currently undertaken by ANCY include:
-
Connecting artist and organizations working with children and youth across
Canada
-
Connecting diverse community sectors with the Arts including Justice,
Social Services, Health and Education
-
Gathering and disseminating research data to support the value of the arts
in children’s lives
-
Linking with government and politicians on the municipal, provincial and
federal levels representing your interests and initiatives.
-
Connecting and sharing information on the benefits of the arts to children
and youth with communities across Canada
-
Working with communities to develop pilot sites; modeling innovative and
emerging infrastructure and programming
-
Developing ‘toolkits’ for communities; information and guidelines for
funding, infrastructure and programming
-
Educating and building on public awareness about the arts and youth sector
ANCY has begun work on the creation of an organizational toolkit to support
the implementation of new children and youth arts programming in communities.
The toolkit will provide information and tools for organizational development
and basic arts administration, including legal governance models, finances,
resources to assist with starting an organization, and generic forms created by
ANCY.
The children and youth arts sector is in development, and this document will be
used as a tool in the long-term development of the sector. As such, the toolkit
will be created to accommodate the addition of new resource materials as they
become available.
ANCY will make the completed toolkit available online. After a test sample, ANCY
will source funding to print the toolkit and find a formal opportunity for its
launch.
